1/1/2008 – Free Winning NCAA Bowl Picks and Hot Chicks: 5 Bowl Picks

Happy New Year!!! We hope you are not still hungover and have enough energy to place some winning bets with us. We are coming at you today with winning picks on 5 games. We are really excited because this is the first time we are coming at you with our Super Keyra bet. Keep reading to find out which bowl that is for. Here are our picks:

We have two Heidi Klum bets for you today:

1 Unit Bet = The Heidi Klum bet. You know she is hot but her judgement must be suspect cause she married one of the ugliest human beings outside of Scottie Pippen, Sam Cassell and Charlie Weis (of course we took a dig at Notre Dame in this blog). We love the Heidi Klum but something is off with her judgement so we are only comfortable making her a a one unit bet.

These are the same pictures that gave us our first win this bowl season so we are being superstitious and going back to them:

and the infamous Butt Crack:

Klum Game 1 – Tennessee (-1.5) versus Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl
We love when we see SEC schools squaring off against Big Ten schools and this game should show America the difference between the two conferences just like it did last year. Tennessee is scoring 33.4 points per game, about three points more than the Badgers this season and that is why the line is set where it is set. Now Tennessee’s defense is nothing to talk about but when they face a basic offense like Wisconsin’s, and rumor has it that PJ Hill is still banged up, we have to think Tennessee will be good enough to deal with them, especially after they only gave up 21 points to an LSU team that has a far superior offense to Wisconsin. Lets look at the ATS numbers:

Badgers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Badgers are 2-6 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Badgers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
Badgers are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win.

Volunteers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
Volunteers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss.
Volunteers are 5-1-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Volunteers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.
Volunteers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Volunteers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite.
Volunteers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.

This game is in Tampa so you know the SEC faithful will pack Raymond James stadium. Wisconsin usually gets stuck in these games against an SEC school and has won this matchup the last two seasons. We think Wisconsin is a different team without PJ Hill and we bet he was worth 2-3 points to the oddsmakers. Both QBs have experience but Ainge gets the edge here. We are only assigning this a Klum bet cause the Badgers show up against the SEC but we think this is the year that changes. Tennessee wins and covers!!!

Klum Game #2 – Hawaii versus Georgia (-7.5) in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic
We think this game has the betters thinking of Oklahoma versus Boise State from last year. The line opened at Georgia -9.5 and is now at Georgia -7.5, which shows that all of the money is going on Hawaii. Hawaii played one of the softest D-1 schedules ever this season. Yes, they did take care of business when it mattered but they barely scraped by. We also know that Georgia feels slighted from the BCS championship game after LSU jumped them after winning the SEC championship game. Mark Richt, the Georgia coach, has openly criticized the system and this is the one thing that makes us nervous. We hope Richt put this behind him and has helped get his Dawg squad ready to win. Lets check out the ATS numbers:

Warriors are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
Warriors are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win.
Warriors are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Warriors are 7-18 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games.
Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

We all know the deal here. Colt Brennan is the man and June Jones has the run and gun going and they play in the same conference as Boise State, Boise State was undefeated last year and beat Oklahoma….Blah Blah Blah. Georgia is one of the hottest teams in the country right now. Georgia has not lost a game since they inserted Freshmen Knowshon Moreno into the starting lineup. They have a six game winning streak going. Georgia amassed 25 sacks over its six-game winning streak to close the season and that is something Hawaii has not seen yet this year. This Georgia defense will really get after Brennan and he has shown a tendancy to get hurt this year. we are only throwing a Klum bet on this because we know what can happen in this wild and whacky bowl season. We do know we are betting Georgia and expect them to win and cover!!!!

So that was two Klum games. We are following that up with two Derek Jeter games.

2 Unit Bet = The Derek Jeter Bet – In honor of one of our favorite athletes, the 2 unit bet will be a tribute to all of the women Derek Jeter has allegedly slept with including, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johanson, Mariah Carey, Anna Kournikouva, Miss Universes, models, etc…. We have a ton of chicks to choose for this bet in honor of our man Derek Jeter.

Lets show off two hot chicks that Jeter has allegedly banged: First Miss Jessica Alba:

We are sure Jeter fired his guns at her. And now one of his other alleged conquests…Miss Vanessa Minnillo:

Yeah Jeter hit this before she got with Nick Lachay and the backside of course:

Jeter Game 1 – Arkansas versus Missouri (-3) in the ATandT Cotton Bowl Classic
Missouri had a great season if you take out playing Oklahoma. However, Missouri definitely feels slighted because they finished 6th in the BCS standings and are not playing in a BCS game. This will be a game of run versus pass…Missouri is the 7th rated passing team in the nation and Arkansas is the 3rd rates rushing offense in the country. Missouri actually has a rush defense and only gave up 118.8 yards per game on the season. Lets get into the ATS numbers:

Razorbacks are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.

Tigers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games.
Tigers are 8-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Tigers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite.
Tigers are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Tigers are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games following a ATS loss.
Tigers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up loss.
Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
Tigers are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games following a double-digit loss at home.

As you can see, Missouri has the clear edge with its ATS numbers. Throw in the fact that Arkansas’ coach, Houston Nutt, resigned after they beat LSU and defected to Ole Miss and you have to like the consistency that Missouri will have. Missouri is definitely disappointed they could not beat Oklahoma but they have a great QB, dynamic offense and a defense that can stop the run and we can see this game getting out of hand. We are sure McFadden and Jones will have their moments but if Missouri gets ahead, as we expect, Arkansas is in no shape to pass its way to victory. Jump on with our Boy Derek Jeter and play Missouri to win and cover!!!!

Jeter Game 2 – USC (-14) versus Illinois in the Rose Bowl
We had our ups and downs with USC this year and this game seems like it should be an easy one for the Trojans. The spread is the highest of all of the Bowl games and Illinois did not lose any games this year by more than 10 points. They even played Missouri tough in a 7 point loss to open the season. Both teams are riding 4 game winning streaks. The real difference in this game is USC’s defense. The Trojans rank second in the country in total defense, fourth in scoring defense and fourth in rushing defense. USC allowed just 15.9 points per game. Lets look at the ATS numbers before we throw our pick out:

Fighting Illini are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
Fighting Illini are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games on grass.
Fighting Illini are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.

So Cal
Trojans are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big Ten.
Trojans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in January.
Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite.
Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Bowl games.
Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 bowl games.
Trojans are 9-3 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Trojans are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games.
Trojans are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
Trojans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss.

Bettors are likely to jump on Illinois because everybody remembers the following three games against mobile QBs…Texas/USC, Washington/USC this year (27-24) and USC’s loss to Dennis Dixon this year. The big difference is that Illinois is a run first team and averaged 266 yards rushing per game. Juice William’s, The Illini mobile QB, ran for 774 yards and 7 TDs and only passed for 1,498 yards with 13 TDs and 10 INTs. Illinois is a run first team and pass second. We already told you how good USC’s defense is and we think Illinois will be completely neutralized. This is not the typical mobile QB that is just as dynamic passing as he is running. Do not fear the points. If you want us to go into more detail on this game we will be happy to. We just see no need. Beat Down Cometh!!! USC wins and covers easily!!!!

We are throwing out our first Keyra bet on the following game.

The Super Bet = The Keyra Shake that Money Maker bet – These will be our super lock bets. The bets we are taking out second mortgages, bank loans, hitting up friends and relatives…you get the picture. Bet as much as you can stomach bets. If you are not familiar with our gal Keyra, check out this action. This has to be one of the best videos ever put on the Internet:

Say this three times…I wish I was a red thong, I wish I was a red thong, I wish I was a red thong:

Or if red is not your color, I wish I was a black thong, I wish I was a black thong, I wish I was a black thong:

Man that makes us feel good. On with “THE GAME” of the bowl season:

Michigan versus Florida (-11) in the Capital One Bowl
We love this game and our write up will not hide our bias in any way. The Wolverines faced two legit spread option teams this year (and we are not counting Illinois for reasons explained above). Appalachian State ran Michigan out of their own house and Oregon really pounded the Wolverines. The Wolverine seniors have never won a bowl game and they never played well for Coach Lloyd Carr so we see no reason why they will play hard for him during this game. Michigan did have four key players injured this year and you never know when the injury bug will bite them again: QB Chad Henne, RB Mike Hart, WR Mario Manningham and OT Jake Long. These guys are all expected to play but will they be able to play the whole game. Florida has the 4th best scoring offense in the country at 43 points per game. Do you know how many times Michigan scored 43 points this year….1 time (against Purdue) and that was the only time they scored 40 this season. Everybody knows how good Tebow is and how dynamic the Gators offense is. We see zero reasons why Michigan can win this game or even have a chance competing. Florida is on a 4 game winning streak and a 4 game winning streak ATS. Check out the ATS numbers:

Wolverines are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Bowl games.
Wolverines are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 bowl games.
Wolverines are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
Wolverines are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
Wolverines are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating less than 275 total yards in their previous game.
Wolverines are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss.
Wolverines are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.

Gators are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Gators are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on grass.
Gators are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite.
Gators are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games.
Gators are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
Gators are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game.
Gators are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points.
Gators are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
Gators are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win.
Gators are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game.
Gators are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win.

Can you just feel it? Florida is going to pound Michigan. They have a significant edge in talent, on offense, in the coaching department and Michigan can not stop the spread. Lloyd Carr is gonna wish he quit last season after an underdog USC squad beat his assin the Rose Bowl. We love this game and are betting our max on it. Florida crushes Michigan…NO CONTEST!!!

1-AA Championship Game: Appalachian State versus Delaware – The Jessica Biel Game

Yes we are betting this game and yes we have an opinion on it!!!

Appalachian State (-5.5) versus Delaware: We love this game and are assigning this a “Derek Jeter Bet”

2 Unit Bet = The Derek Jeter Bet – In honor of one of our favorite athlete, the 2 unit bet will be a tribute to all of the women Derek Jeter has allegedly slept with including, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johanson, Mariah Carey, Anna Kournikouva, Miss Universes, models, etc…. We have a ton of chicks to choose for this bet in honor of our man Derek Jeter.

We are going to honor Miss Jessica Biel this week and we have proof that she was “with” Derek Jeter. Remember Jeter does not date and he took Miss Biel to Puerto Rice the week before she started dating Justin Timberlake.

Miss Biel picture 1:

and of course Miss Biel picture #2…the ass shot:

And now on with the game notes….

Meet the man that makes this game worth watching:

If you do not know Armanti Edwards…you live in a hole!!! We watched last week as Appalachian State’s QB, the very talented Armanti Edwards, rushed for 313 yards and 4 TDs and was 14/16 in the passing game for 182 yards and 3 TDs in a 55-35 win against Richmond. Yes, the same Richmond team that beat Delaware 62-56 during the regular season. This Appalachian State team is now starting to roll…Back on November 24 they sneaked by James Madison 28-27 and then sneaked by Eastern Washington 38-35 on December 1 right before the Richmond game. Richmond challenged Appalachian State coming back to tie from a 21 point deficit but App State was simply too much. Armanti knows how to play and win in close games and knows how to take control and put games away. Appalachian State is going for their third title in a row and Mr. Edwards will not be stopped. Delaware barely squeaked by Southern Illinois 20-17 to make it to the championship game and will be running into a buzzsaw against this Appalachian State team. One thing to remember, this is the same team and same QB, that led Appalachian State to a title last year. They will not be facing the pressure of Delaware because they have been here and won it!!!

This game should be high scoring and exciting and we have no doubt that Appalachian State will come out on top in this one. We thought the opening line was going to be double digits and we were very surprised and ecstatic that we could get it at -5.5. So take two of the 13 units we helped you win during the regular NCAA football season and kick off the bowl season and championship season with this game. Appalachian State wins and covers!!!!

P.S. If Vegas posts a line on the D-III game tomorrow we will be back with our pick. Keep your fingers crossed cause the D-III game is money in the bank.

2007-2008 NCAA Football Bowl Preview: RPJ Syndicate’s Guide to Making Money

We concluded the NCAA Football regular season with a record of 59-54. We were 6-4 on Eva Mendes bets, which were our super bets meaning we bet 5 times our normal unit. This approach led us to win 13 units on the season. Take away the Vig (about 10%) and we are working with with just under 12 units….11.7 to be exact. We would have liked to win more but we won and that is a lot better than other so called “experts can say”.

The reason we started our blog is because we went 19-4 during last season’s Bowl Season. We crushed it!!!! Combining our record with an article in the Wall Street Journal about a sports picker out in Cal-Berkely who was giving away his picks for free and winning at a nice rate. Well this Cal-Berkeley guy made his picks for pay when he had enough of a fan base and he was making $10k a month in his first few months on top of his gambling money. We know our system and our picking are world class and we are revealing all of our picks to you for free. You the reader are reaping the benefits of a free winning system. The point of gambling is not to have more fun while watching games…the point is to make cold hard cash and when you follow us, as we proved during this season, you make cash!!!

Now the point of this Bowl season is to take your/our 11.7 units and turn that into a lot more. We are going to give you specific reasons why we are picking a game and sometimes we might just tell you to pick a game just like we did with our pick of PITT to cover against West Virginia for their December 1 game. Our betting system is based on a trial and tested system and we always put our money where our mouth is with no exceptions.

For this bowl season we are going to set up a system for you where you bet 1,2,3,4,5 and the Super Bet for as many betting units as you are willing to risk. The Super Bet is our 99.99999% lock!! These bets are called:

The Super Bet = The Keyra Shake that Money Maker bet – These will be our super lock bets. The bets we are taking out second mortgages, bank loans, hitting up friends and relatives…you get the picture. Bet as much as you can stomach bets.

5 Unit Bet = The Eva Mendes Bet – We love us some Eva and think she is a Goddess. Since we renamed the Brinks truck bet the Eva Mendes we went 3-1 with it.

4 Unit Bet = The Shakira Hips Don’t Lie bet- We love us some Shakira and her hip shaking bits. In honor of this Columbian love ma-cheen, we named one of our bets after her. For the Shakira bets, place 4 times your typical unit of bet.

3 Unit Bet = The Dahm Triplets bet-A lot of great things come in threes. The Dahm Triplets are no exception. Indeed, they are Dahm hot!! For these bets, bet 3 times your typical betting unit… one for each one of these lovely ladies. Be sure to send the vig to their parents as thank you for gracing us with them. The world is definitely 3 times better since they were delivered from the heavens.

Below is the schedule for all bowl games this season. We are going to pick as many games as our system spits out. Do not expect us to pick every game but we will have action on most of them. We will probably post our picks on this blog 1-2 days before each bowl. Please feel free to ask us any questions or post comments on this blog. Our email is rpjsyndicate@gmail.com.

Torre Needs to Go

The All Star break came and went. With its passing brings hope for a lot of teams that they can make it to the post season. My Yanks are no different. Right after the All Star game itself, Jeter was quoted as saying that he believes the Yanks can catch the Sox before season’s end. Coming from Jeter, I’d believe anything. Unfortunately for Jeter and the rest of the Yanks, he has two things going against him: he has a leper playing to his right that fields balls hit to him like they are wrapped in poo and has emptied his tank in April and June, and he has a manager that is begging to be fired at the helm. Sorry Jeter, the Yanks’ shipping is going down faster than any of the strippers in the harem of the guy that plays to your right.

I despise #13 and have game 7 of the World Series marked on my caldendars at home and at work (even in my Outlook) as the glorious day when that clown can opt out of his deal. The Eric Duncan Era needs to begin tonight. Him leaving will make me happy beyond belief.  However, Torre is a different  story.

It pains me to want Torre out. Unfortunately, his time passed during Game 7 of the ’01 Series. His managing since then has not been worthy of a AAA job. With Torre at the helm, there is no way this team can make it to the post season and win. No way. Look at yesterday’s game against the Rays as recent proof. Moose struggled early, but scraped to keep them in the game. The Yanks need to win damn near every game at this point, but rather than approaching every game like that (like Jeter does), Torre turns the ball over the Ron Villone, Luis Vizcaino and Kyle Farnsworth. What?!?!?!? Villone has no business even being on this team, and are there two better players than Vizcaino and Farnsworth to be the poster boys for how much of a disappointment this team has been? Villone of course sucked it, Vizcaino was surprisingly good, and Farnsworth, of course, was his typical terrible self. Has there been any inning this year (or even since he has been a Yankee) that he has not given up either a walk or a hit (or lots of both)?!?!? I can’t think of any. This is the same clown who showed up his manager and his teammates when he was pulled for being terrible. How is he even still on the team?!?!?!

Torre continues to make moves that put the Yanks in positions to lose. Granted, I know Torre can’t make Damon and Myers lose their vaginas and stop being a Red Sox homerspies. Or be Abreu’s therapist to make his mental boo-boo’s go away when he comes to the plate (could there be a worse walk year performance in the history of sport-probably guarantees that the Yanks will give him $15 mil per year for 10 years next year though). But, he can still make moves to put them in better positions to win. Whay not send runners? Why not manufacture runs? What the hell was that line-up you pout out for the Saturday game against the Rays?!?!?! Why not TELL your pitchers to pitch inside. When Sheffield and Lofton come up again against the Yanks, the Yanks pitchers should not have to be told to throw up and in. However, they won’t because Torre has created a culture of losing where sallyness is accepted. The Yanks have become the Cubs and “Wait ‘Til Next Year” is probably posted in the Yanks clubhouse somewhere.  Disgusting.

Torre needs to go. Yanks need to install Girardi or Larry Bowa as manager and give Paulie O whatever he wants to be bench coach. Seriously. Do you think Abreu would come back to the dugout after one of his typical at bats knowing that Paulie O would be waiting for him? No way.  Cashman needs to give Joe an endless supply of green tea, a new pillow to rest his head during games and send him on his way. If not, the Yanks might as well start making Fall tee times now.

MLB & NBA Picks

Been a while since I made some picks. Here are my results to date:

  • MLB: 16-18
  • NBA: 16-6-1
  • UFC: 4-2

Let’s see if I can get my MLB record up where it needs to be. Unfortunately, I only like three lines for tomorrow’s (Friday’s) action.

  • Braves @ Rockies. Two of the games young guns square of in this one. James for the Braves. Francis for the Rockies. I like Francis a lot. I don’t think he is even close to hitting his potential. Even in that park. He is a slight underdog at home (Braves are -108, Rockies -102). He shouldn’t be. I’m taking the Rockies -102.
  • Rays vs. A’s. Rays’ current streak is a little misleading. They are coming off an absolute beatdown of the Yanks, but that is somewhat deceptive. The Yanks are terrible and play with no heart on a consistent basis and they have the worse manager in baseball. A win against them isn’t that impressive, even for the Rays. However, things like that, especially for a young team, can build momentum fast. Real fast. They will be without Baldelli (possibly), but the A’s have been decimated by injuries. Harden. Swisher. They are all banged-up. They still play with fire though and never quit. Hats off to Bob Geren. That said, I think the Rays take this one. I think they ride the Yanks series and keep pressing. I like the line, too. Shields MOWED in his last start. I’m taking the Rays +140.
  • Red Sox @ Yanks. Couldn’t let this one go. Espeically given the two starters: AP for the Yanks, Nomo II for the Sox. Between Sockgate, Schilling’s vagina, Nomo II’s overratedness, the Yanks being soft and having the worse manager in baseball, there is always so many sideshow debacles to this series that even if you don’t like either team, it is impossible not to check it out. The thing about last weekend’s beatdown is that the Yanks were in every game. They should have taken two out of three. I think they right the ship tomorrow night. I think they get to Nomo II early and often. I like AP as a stopper. I don’t think the Yanks will lose 7 in a row (despite Torre). I’m taking the Yanks -122.

  • Bulls @ Heat. The Heat have looked terrible in this series. The Bulls have been playing like a team possessed. I think they hate the Heat and are looking to crush them. Despite that, the Heat are favorites at home. Vegas must be thinking that Riley can motivate them and right the ship. I think he will enough so to win, but not cover. I think this game will be close. I’m taking the Bulls +5.5.
  • Raptors @ Nets. This has been a great series. Love watching Kidd run the floor and Bosh just be Bosh. Bosh is probably my favorite player the the league right now. HUGE fan. Wish he didn’t play in Toronto though. This will be another good game. I like the Nets to cover at home though. I’m taking the Nets -4.5.
  • Warriors @ Mavs. Can someone pull Stephen Jackson aside and shake the sh*t out of him? Please! I think he was jealous that Baron got tossed, so he acted a fool just so he wouldn’t be left out. That team makes no sense. Nellie looks like he is going to explode in every interview. Everytime. Even when they win. Baron went off the reservation in a game his team still had a legit chance of winning. Nellie should bench him to start the game. No need for that prima donna crap. I think the Mavs figured out that they actually need to start playing. I think they CRUSH the Warriors. It will be ugly. This line is a joke and a mistake. I’m taking the Mavs -4.5.

Those are my picks. Good luck.

MLB, NBA & UFC Picks

Took some bad beats yesterday. Bullpen let me down in the Pirates-Dodgers, and Grienke was terrible. Split in the NBA and went 2-1 in UFC. How about the BEATDOWN Cro Crop caught last night?!?!?!?! One of the best kncokouts I’ve ever seen. I think Gonzaga-Couture will be a GREAT fight. Couture will have his hands full. OSU Syndrome written all over it. With yesterday’s debacle, my record is as follows:

  • MLB: 14-15
  • NBA: 14-4-2
  • UFC: 4-1

Ouch. Yesterday hurt. Need to make up for it today. Here it goes:

  • Wiz @ Cavs. Not really much analysis in this one. Wiz are without Arenas and Butler. Easy win for the Cavs. I like the Cavs -11.
  • Lakers @ Suns. Suns want to make a statement in this one. Kobe does play extrememly well against them though. He always rises to the competition. I just think the Suns have too much fire power. I’m taking the Suns -11.
  • Nuggets @ Spurs. I’ve picked the Spurs a few times recently, eventhough they seldom cover. I’m not doing it this time. I think the Spurs win, but they will pull their starters to save them for the post season. Nuggets have enough to cover. I’m taking the Nuggets +8.5.
  • Warriors @ Mavs. This game will be a beatdown. Warriors are thanful to be in the playoffs. Mavs are rested and ready. Mavs win this easy. The spread should be higher. I’m taking the Mavs -9.5.

  • Braves @ Mets. Smoltz vs. Glavine. Need I say more? GREAT match-up of two future Hall of Famers. Can’t wait to see this one.  Both guys will be amped to face each other. I just like Smoltz better in this one. I also think it will be low scoring. I’m taking the Braves +115. I’m also taking the under @ 8.5.
  • Pirates @ Dodgers. See if I can get this one right-haha. I like Gorzelanny a lot. He’ll out pitch Tomko (and hoepfully get some Pen help). I’m taking the Pirates +125.
  • White Sox @ Tigers. Sox are playing REALLY well right now. I think they sweep. I’m taking the White Sox +140.
  • Yanks @ Red Sox. Nomo II finally gets his first taste of the rivalry. Teams have shown that if you are patient, you can get to him. He is a much different pitcher with runners on base. Eventhough th Yanks are starting a rookie, have the worse manager in baseball and have played like a AAA team in this series, I don’t think thye get swept. Yanks are huge underdogs in this. I’m taking the Yanks +165.

Those are my picks. Good luck.

MLB, NBA & UFC Picks

Been a slow week. The last remaining NBA regular season games were a debacle because it was never clear when the favorites would bench their players. The lines on the MLB games were not good. NBA playoffs start tomorrow and I’m extremely psyched. Don’t know the lines yet, but you can be certain I will be making picks.

I did hit some games last Tuesday. Specifically, the Jays, Rangers and Padres all covered, but the Cards and Giants sucked it. Giants bullpen is horrendous. Matt Cain dealed in that game and it should have been an easy winner. Went 3-2. My records to date are as follows:

  • MLB:14-12
  • NBA: 12-2-2
  • UFC: 2-1

For today’s games, I like the following:

  • Braves @ Mets. Pretty much an even spread. Braves are slight favorites at Shea. Pelfrey vs. Hudson. I love Hudson in this one. I think the Braves are legit and play harder than the Mets. I’m taking the Braves -108.
  • Jays @ O’s. This line is a joke and total mistake. Burnett vs. Cabrera. Jays are underdogs. I don’t care that it is in Baltimore. Their fans are soft and there is no home field advantage.  Burnett will mow. I’m taking the Jays +114.
  • White Sox @ Tigers. Firt of their match-ups. Both teams will be fired-up. The rookie Denks is on the hill for the Sox. Chad Durbin for the Tigers. Despite the Tigers being at home, I like the White Sox in this one. I think Bueherle’ no-no gave them a big boost. They’ll be looking for revenge of the Tigers for last year. I think they will come out hungrier than the Tigers and Denks will out pitch Durbin. I like Denks a lot and the McCarthy trade in Spring is highly underrated. I’m taking the White Sox +102.
  • Yanks @ Red Sox. Been waiting for this game all season. Another line that I think is flawed. Right now, the Yanks are slight underdogs. They should be decent size favorites. Pettitte is a big game pitcher and lives for these moments. He knows this series all too well. I think he outpicthes Schilling. Even at home. Plus, the Yanks offense is just much, much better than the Sox offense at this stage of the season. No one has been able to subdue #13 for any stretch. it will be interesting to see if the Fenway crowd gets into his head and brings him back down to reality. Could easily happen because he is a headcase. But, I think he performs well tonight (and all weekend). I think this line is seriously flawed. I’m taking the Yanks +102.

  • I posted about this earlier in the week, taking Crop Cop and Arlovski. I also like Bisbing. He is going to be fighting in front of his home crowd. I like all three of these guys a lot. Check your lines-they have changed some and I’ve seen different spreads at different publications and sites. I’m taking Cro Cop, Arlovski and Bisbing at whatever line will be available before the fights.

There’s seven winners. NBA picks to come Saturday before the games.

Good luck.

Yankees versus Red Sox – Let’s Get Ready to Rumble….kind of,

Well baseball fans, it is that time of year again. Yankees versus Red Sox, the cream of the crop of the AL East, two of the best teams in baseball, all the big names….Arod, Jeter, Pettite, Rivera, Giambi vs. Beckett, Schilling, Dice-K, Papi, Manny…basically it is a baseball fan’s dream. So how do we look at this weekend? The pressure is entirely on the Red Sox, 100%. Why do you ask? It is simple:

Pettite vs. Schilling – Red Sox are favored
Karstens vs. Beckett – it is really no contest, Red Sox are favored
Wright vs. Dice – K – Yeah you guessed it, Red Sox are favored

All of the pressure is on the Red Sox. This is not Pettite, Mussina and Wang rolling in, even Pavano would be a step up over Karstens and Wright. No, it is Andy P and Schilling and then Yank’s minor leaguers versus arguably the Red Sox two best pitchers. If I am a Red Sox fan, which I am not, I would be disappointed at anything but a 3-0 sweep. The Sox get to roll out their 1,2,3..their top of the rotaion guys and those guys expect to win and the fans expect them to win. So why is the pressure off of the Yanks, because if they do get swept they can simply say they are banged up and had to throw minor league pitchers at the Red Sox. They have an out.

Schilling and Beckett know what this series is all about but Dice-K has no idea. Dice-K has one Fenway start and he was completely outpitched by King Felix. The Yankees batting order will be like nothing Dice-K has ever seen. The one stat I blogged about earlier in the week is key to the Dice-K start. Dice-K’s OBP when pitching from the stretch is 90 pints higher than from the windup. This stat is not based on this year but spans his entire career. I think the Yanks hitters will take a lot of pitches and will frustrate Dice-K. The Yanks also have speed at the top of the lineup, which is something Dice-K has not seen yet as well. This could be a long start for him and I am predicting that this will be the worst start of his short MLB career.

The Arod debate. Arod is on fire and does not need any more attention. Yankee fans still do not trust Arod and this series will either keep Arod hitting on the war path or will humble him a bit. The entire world knows Arod crumbles in big spots and the Yanks inexperienced starters are going to need all the offensive help they can get. This series will be big for Arod because everybody will want to know if he can remain hot or if he crumbles under the pressure like he has in Fenway in the past and especially the playoffs. A hot April does not predict a hot October and Arod still has a lot to prove.

I am willing to live blog the Dice-K Sunday start if peple request it. Check out my live blog of his first Fenway start to see what I can do. I hope this is a good series and a competitive one.

The Dice-K stat that tells his whole story!!!!

Just heard a fascinating Dice-K stat on the radio and this came from the Blue Jays and their scouting department. Dice-K is really two different pitchers…Pitcher 1 is dominant and Pitcher 2 is not.

Pitcher 1 holds opposing batters to an on base percentage of 0.255
Pitcher 2 holds opposing batters to an on base percentage of 0.345

This are stats from Dice-K’s entire career. Any guesses? C’mon now…think about it……alright I will tell you…

Pitcher 1 is Dice-K over his career pitching from the wind up and Pitcher 2 is Dice-K over his career pitching from the stretch. He is a completely different pitcher when put into the stretch. Both the Mariners and the Blue Jays have proved this. His pitches do not break as much and his velocity is lower because he can not get that special torque that comes from his windup. I can not wait o watch him pitch against he Yankees against Jeter, Abreau, Arod and Giambi…hitters that work counts and take pitches. I think this will be a great time to watch Dice-K try and battle through the Yankee lineup. This is also something that needs to be watched throughout the season. Dice-K has to make adjustments and has to get better out of the stretch or else we will continue to see where he breaks down. He recovered nicely last night to only give up two runs in that inning because it could of been a lot worse. Sunday night in Fenway will be electric and I can not wait to see the Yanks take their cracks at the mighty Dice-K.

State of the Yankees

We are nearly though the first two weeks of the season. Very happy to see MLB celebrate Jackie Robinson Day today. Very classy and it should be done every year. Only disappointing part of the celebration was that I wish EVERY player wore #42. I like that a few players from each team wore Jackie’s jersey, but it would have been a great sign of solidarity if everyone wore his uniform as tribute.

As you probably know, Flash and I are HUGE Yankees fans. Neither of us live in NY, but we make the pilgrimage to the Stadium every year for opening day. The Yankees are pretty much all we think about, and we obsess over the team like crazy. Throughout the season, from time-to-time I will write a State of the Yankees post to cover various topics concerning the greatest sports franchise ever assembled. So, here goes my first shot:

Starting Pitching

Not sure I’ve ever seen a collection of sallies this large and this well paid. Leading the charge of my angst is, of course, Carla Pavano. Is there a worse athlete?!?!?! Ever?!?!? His latest stint on the DL began today with Carla mysteriously injuring his forearm. How does he get away with this?!?!?!? He looked great in his last start-probably his best pitching performance since he shat on the Yankees in the 2003 Series. So, he must have injured the said forearm doing something else that wasn’t related to his last start….I can only imagine what that was and it fits his sorry MO. Here is my first plea to Cashman: PLEASE CUT HIM NOW!! Pretty please! We are better off bringing up a new starter from the minors every fifth day than to let Pavano take the mound again. Remember, this is the same guy who missed a start because his girlfriend was sick. Nothing against his girlfriend (I hope she was OK), but c’mon!!!!!!!

Speaking of his girlfriend, as an aside I’d like to give herprops for doing what we want to do-kick him to the curb. For those of you who don’t know her, her name is Gia Allemand and she booted Carla right at the beginning of the season. Of course, she is an aspiring model and has her own website. Check her out at www.giaallemand.com. A little warning, the site is horrendous and if you visit, turn the volume on your computer off. There is cheesey, 70’s porn theme music that relentlessly plays over and over again. Again, terrible site, but she deserves our respect.

Also, take a look at this article from the NY Post: www.nypost.com/seven/03302007/news/nationalnews/pavano_gal_pal_drops_bomber_nationalnews_richard_johnson_and_david_k__li.htm

This could be the funniest thing I have ever read. Especially her quote of “I was the one that trained him and got him there all year,” she told Steppin’ Out’s Chaunce Hayden. She trained him?!?!?!?!?!??! Please tell me that is true!!! Please!!!! Would help explain many things about Carla. Back to the Yanks….

Unfortunately for the Yankees, Carla is not the only clown on their pitching staff. Wang has yet to make a start. Joining him on the DL (and Carla, too) is Mike Mussina. He walked off the mound in his last start because of a bum hammy. He’ll probably be out until the all-star break. I do like Moose  a lot. However, now hat he is on the DL, too, I wonder if Carla will now be giving him grief for “not wanting to be a part of the team,” “or not proving to his teammates that he wants to pitch”? If you remember, Moose publicly blasted Carla before camp started about his stints on the DL for seemingly minor injuries. I guess that doesn’t apply to everyone. Nice showing, Moose.

Kei Igawa…I don’t even need to write more. He needs to be gone immediately. I rip on Red Sox fans I know for spending too much money on Nomo II, but the Yankees signing of Igawa (almost $26 mil total) may be worse. Cashman jumped the shark with that signing and I can only imagine he did so as a knee jerk response to losing out on Nomo II. No other explanation. I’ve seen him pitch a few times. Joe Kerrigan throws better warm-up in the Pen.

The state of the current pitching situation leads me to conclude one thing: the Philip Hughes Era needs to begin today. Call him up to fill one of the three DL spots they have. Give him a spot and shot to try it out. He is young and cocky. His confidence is not going to be ruined if he gets roughed-up. He is tough. In fact, guarantee his spot and let the the four clowns mentionedin this post compete for the job whenever they decide it would be good to earn their checks. After-all, Torre guaranteed a spot to Mientkewicz (I don’t care if that is spelled wrong-he is terrible) and that turned out super (I think through today’s game, he wasn’t hitting his weight).  Why not do it for someone with talent?

#13 (still not calling him by name) has started the season with a flourish. Absolutely killing the ball. However, I’ve seen enough of him in clutch situations to know that the other shoe could drop at anytime. For now, I will compliment him and say that he has looked DAMN good at the plate and in the field (notwithstanding the bonehead play on opening day). He has popped out a lot with the bases loaded. he is still leaving a lot of runners on. However, it is a great start so far. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Giambi has started slow, but recently he has been hitting the ball hard. He had a good series in Oakland. Hopefully he will capitalize on that momentum. Jeter is Jeter (except for his glove). With the exception of Vlad Guerrero, there is no other hitter in MLB that I’d rather see at bat than Bobby Abreu. He pummels pitchers. Absolutely eats them up. His ABs earlier in the week against Ponson were priceless. The ESPN announcers calling that game even commented that after Ponson faced Abreu, he was sweating so much they thought he was going to pass out. Plus, his swing is a thing of beauty. Posada is starting off well. So is Cano and Melky is finally starting to show that last year was no fluke.

Bottom-line is the offense is looking good. Hoping it will be even better once warmer weather sets in.

The defense has been atrocious. This is not a good defensive team, but no one thought they would be this bad. Leading the way, very surprisingly so, is Jeter. He is already halfway to his error total for the entire 2006 season. Very unlike him. Hopefully it is a fluke and he puts it together. I think he will. This team has a good offense, but not good enough to overcome the errors on a consistent basis to win games. Definitely not enough to win the Series. They need to improve.

Has been the best part of the club. Bruneytime is legit and will unseat Proctor and Farnsworth as Torre’s main set-up man for Mo. With the exception of Mo’s blown save today, the pen has been phenomenal. Very happy with their performance to date.

Overall Grade: I know it is only the first two weeks, but I will give a grade for each State of the Yankees post. For the first two weeks, I’ll give them a B-.Their offense has been good, their pen has been amazing, but both are heavily outweighed by the piss poor defense and the sallies on the starting staff (with the exception of AP). They need to get better in both areas if they hope to compete for a long October run. This team should be much better, but they are underachieving big-time.

So that’s my first shot. I’ll keep them coming.
