Tomorrow’s Headline: Navy Beats Notre Dame and the Golden Dome Implodes

There is a lot at stake in South Bend this afternoon and Runny will be there front and center to witness history. Two weeks ago we watched USC give the Irish their second worse loss in home history and today Runny will watch as a 43 game winning streak comes to an end. It is hard to believe but there is more destructive history on the line for the Irish:

It would mark the first time in 119 seasons of Notre Dame football that the Irish not only have lost five in a row at home, but lost five there in a season. Coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday the fear of another home loss weighs heavier on the Irish than being the first Notre Dame squad to lose to Navy since 1963.

The Irish have lost four consecutive home games three times before. The only other time it happened in a season was in 1960 when they won their home opener before dropping the final four.

Weis doesn’t think the NCAA-record, 43-game winning streak against the Midshipmen will affect his team.

Yeah right Charlie!!! And Andy Reid’s two sons in jail on drug and gun charges are not eaffecting his ability to coach the Eagles. The pressure is front and center on the Irish and so far they have shown that they can not compete in big games under Charlie. Charlie’s Irish have not won a bowl game nor have they beaten a top 10 rated team.

There are some other staggering numbers. Navy is averaging 343 yards a game rushing. Notre Dame has rushed for a total of 273 yards all season. The Midshipmen are averaging more than twice as many rushing yards per quarter (86) than the Irish are per game (34).

We love the against the spread (ATS) numbers as well:

Midshipmen are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
Midshipmen are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in November.
Midshipmen are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog of 0.5-3.0.
Midshipmen are 47-18 ATS in their last 65 road games.
Midshipmen are 31-12 ATS in their last 43 games as a road underdog.
Midshipmen are 41-18-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

Fighting Irish are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Fighting Irish are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games on grass.
Fighting Irish are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games.
Fighting Irish are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
Fighting Irish are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite.

And drum roll please……Our favorite…the head to head numbers:

Midshipmen are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Notre Dame.
Road team is 11-1 ATS in their last 12 meetings.

Now we are definitely emotional with this pick and are not taking the moneyline. Our money is on Navy (+3), we hope they win and we are picking them to cover.

I think the Catholic Priests in South Bend will be crossing their hearts and throwing out some extra hail marys today. The team needs it.

  1. Mrs. Runny and I were at the game and witnessed the history firsthand!!!!!! EXTREMELY great experience!! Weis needs to be fired immediately. Worse play calling I’ve seen. Ever. He even out did Dave Wandstadt.
